There are two things I can spend way too much time on: Video games and LEGO.
So when those two worlds come together, it’s pretty hard not to get interested.
And I’m not just talking about little Mario figures or sets that happen to have a gaming logo on the box.
I’m talking about:
- Building an original Nintendo Game Boy
- Recreating an arcade machine
- Or putting together an entire LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System complete with a television
With Christmas coming up, I wanted to put together a list of eight LEGO sets that I think video game lovers would genuinely appreciate. Whether you’re shopping for somebody who grew up playing Atari or a Nintendo fan who still gets excited about Mario, there’s something here.

Quick Verdict: Which LEGO Gaming Set Should You Buy?
If you don’t want to read through all eight, here’s how I’d narrow things down.
- Best Overall Gift: LEGO Super Mario Game Boy (72046)
- Best New Arcade Build: LEGO Donkey Kong Arcade (72051)
- Best Nintendo Display Piece: LEGO Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi (71438)
- Best for Super Mario 64 Fans: LEGO Question Mark Block (71395)
- Best Premium Arcade Display: LEGO PAC-MAN Arcade (10323)
- Best for Retro Gaming Collectors: LEGO Atari 2600 (10306)
- Best Big Nostalgia Build: LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System (71374)
- Best Smaller Character Display: LEGO Piranha Plant (71426)
My personal pick? The LEGO Game Boy is probably the easiest one for me to recommend as a gift. It’s recognizable, doesn’t require a massive display area, and feels like the kind of thing a gamer would love having on their desk.
But if money and shelf space weren’t an issue, that LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System would be pretty hard to pass up.
Best Overall Gift for Gamers: LEGO Super Mario Game Boy (72046)
421 pieces | Ages 18+
I think this might be one of the coolest LEGO sets for somebody who grew up with Nintendo.
It’s a nearly life-size replica of the original Game Boy, built entirely from LEGO bricks.
And the details are what make it interesting.
You get the familiar directional pad, A and B buttons, START and SELECT buttons, and even the volume and contrast controls.
It also includes two interchangeable game cartridges inspired by Super Mario Land and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, along with display screen options.
That’s such a cool touch.
I also like that this isn’t an enormous set. At 421 pieces, it’s a more approachable project than some of the bigger builds on this list.
And once you’re finished, you have something that looks great sitting next to your monitor or on a shelf.
Why I’d recommend it:
- Recognizable original Game Boy design
- Includes Mario and Zelda-inspired game cartridges
- Compact enough for a gaming desk
- A manageable 421-piece build
- Great for Nintendo nostalgia
My verdict: Probably my favorite all-around gift idea on this list. It combines gaming nostalgia, LEGO, and a display piece that doesn’t need its own furniture.

Best Interactive Arcade Build: LEGO Super Mario Donkey Kong Arcade (72051)
1,367 pieces | Ages 18+
Instead of building a regular Donkey Kong figure, you’re recreating the original arcade game’s action in LEGO form.
The set features Donkey Kong, Jumpman, and Lady, along with the recognizable ladders, platforms, barrels, and hammer.
But the coolest part is that it actually has moving mechanisms.
You can release barrels, move Jumpman using the joystick, and press a button to make him jump over the barrels.
That’s a lot more interesting than building something that just sits there.
It’s not a fully playable electronic arcade game, but the mechanical features help recreate the feel of the original.
I also think this would look incredible in a gaming room.
It’s big enough to stand out without needing the amount of space that a real arcade cabinet would take.
Why I’d recommend it:
- Inspired by the original Donkey Kong arcade game
- Working mechanical barrel and jumping features
- Includes iconic characters and level details
- 1,367-piece build
- Excellent gaming-room display
My verdict: If you’re shopping for someone who loves old-school arcade games, this would be near the top of my list.

Best Nintendo Display Piece: LEGO Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi (71438)
1,215 pieces | Ages 18+
There’s something about the old pixelated Mario games that still looks awesome.
And LEGO did a really good job capturing that style with this set.
It features Mario riding Yoshi, recreated in the pixel-art style of Super Mario World.
But it’s not just a static display.
There’s a handle you can turn to make Yoshi appear to run, along with a dial that makes his tongue move in and out.
I love that LEGO incorporated movement without ruining the retro look.
This is also one of those sets that doesn’t need much explanation.
You could put it on a shelf in your gaming room, and pretty much anybody who grew up with Nintendo would recognize it immediately.
Why I’d recommend it:
- Classic Super Mario World pixel-art design
- Moving Yoshi running mechanism
- Adjustable tongue feature
- 1,215 pieces
- A great display for Nintendo fans
My verdict: One of my favorite-looking sets here. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves the classic side-scrolling Mario games.

Best for Super Mario 64 Fans: LEGO Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block (71395)
2,064 pieces | Ages 18+
At first glance, this looks like a giant yellow question mark block.
Which is already pretty cool.
But the real reason I like this set is what’s hiding inside.
The block opens to reveal four miniature areas inspired by Super Mario 64:
- Princess Peach’s Castle
- Bob-omb Battlefield
- Cool, Cool Mountain
- Lethal Lava Land
It also includes ten tiny character figures and plenty of recognizable details from the game.
I think this is one of those LEGO sets where the building experience would be just as enjoyable as the finished product.
You’re not simply assembling a big yellow cube. You’re discovering little pieces of a classic game as you go.
And once it’s finished, you can display it as the Question Mark Block or open it to show off the levels.
Why I’d recommend it:
- Four recognizable Super Mario 64 locations
- Opens to reveal hidden miniature scenes
- Ten microfigures
- Large 2,064-piece project
- Unique display design
My verdict: A fantastic collectible for someone who has a special connection to Super Mario 64.

Best Premium Arcade Display: LEGO Icons PAC-MAN Arcade (10323)
2,651 pieces | Ages 18+
If you want a LEGO set that’s going to stand out in a gaming room, this one is hard to beat.
It’s a detailed recreation of a classic PAC-MAN arcade cabinet.
And with 2,651 pieces, it’s one of the biggest builds on this list.
What makes it especially interesting is the mechanical maze.
You can turn a handle to simulate PAC-MAN being chased through the maze, and there’s even a light-up coin slot.
The set also includes a small 1980s arcade scene with a minifigure.
I think that’s one of the things LEGO does really well with these larger adult sets.
It’s not just the outside of the arcade cabinet. There are little details and surprises that make the build feel special.
Why I’d recommend it:
- Detailed PAC-MAN arcade cabinet
- Moving mechanical maze
- Illuminated coin slot
- Hidden arcade-themed details
- Substantial 2,651-piece build
My verdict: If I were building a retro gaming room, this would be one of the first LEGO sets I’d want on display.

Best for Retro Gaming Collectors: LEGO Icons Atari 2600 (10306)
2,532 pieces | Ages 18+
The Atari 2600 helped define home console gaming, and this LEGO set recreates the console, joystick, and several classic game cartridges.
The included cartridges represent Asteroids, Adventure, and Centipede.
You also get little scenes inspired by those games, plus a hidden 1980s gaming room inside the console.
That hidden room might actually be my favorite detail.
There’s something pretty funny about building a video game console and discovering another tiny gamer inside it.
I also like that the set celebrates more than just the hardware.
It captures the era of gaming that the Atari 2600 represents.
Why I’d recommend it:
- Detailed Atari 2600 console replica
- Brick-built joystick
- Three classic game cartridges
- Miniature game-inspired scenes
- Hidden 1980s gaming room
My verdict: Probably the best gift on this list for somebody who grew up with Atari or loves collecting gaming history.

Best Big Nostalgia Build: LEGO Super Mario Nintendo Entertainment System (71374)
2,646 pieces | Ages 18+
It’s a LEGO recreation of the original Nintendo Entertainment System.
But it doesn’t stop at the console.
You also build a controller, a game cartridge, and an old-school television showing Super Mario Bros.
And the television has a moving screen.
Turn the handle, and Mario moves through a scrolling level.
That’s such a cool idea.
The console even has an opening cartridge slot, which makes the whole thing feel like a proper tribute to the original NES.
I can picture this sitting in a gaming room next to a modern PC or console setup.
It’s the kind of display that reminds you just how far gaming has come.
Why I’d recommend it:
- Original NES console replica
- Buildable controller and game cartridge
- Retro television with scrolling Mario scene
- Detailed mechanical features
- Huge 2,646-piece project
My verdict: If you’re looking for a big LEGO project for someone who loves Nintendo history, this is an incredible option. I’d just make sure the price is reasonable before buying.

Best Smaller Gaming Display: LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant (71426)
540 pieces | Ages 18+
Not every LEGO gaming set needs to be a giant console or arcade cabinet.
Sometimes you just want something cool sitting on your desk.
And a Piranha Plant coming out of a Mario pipe is a pretty good choice.
This set recreates the familiar enemy from the Super Mario games, complete with its green pipe.
You can adjust the plant’s head, mouth, stalk, and leaves to change its pose.
I think that’s what makes this one appealing.
It’s recognizable, doesn’t take up a ridiculous amount of room, and works as a fun display without being overly complicated.
It’s also one of the more approachable builds on this list at 540 pieces.
Why I’d recommend it:
- Recognizable Super Mario character
- Adjustable head, mouth, stalk, and leaves
- Includes the classic green pipe
- 540-piece build
- Great for desks and bookshelves
My verdict: If you’re buying for someone who loves Mario but doesn’t have room for a giant LEGO set, this is an easy one to consider.

Which LEGO Set Is the Best Gift for a Gamer?
I think it depends on the kind of gamer you’re buying for.
- If they grew up playing Nintendo handhelds, I’d go with the LEGO Game Boy.
- If they’re into classic arcade games, the Donkey Kong Arcade or PAC-MAN Arcade would be fantastic choices.
- If they’re a huge Mario fan, I really like the Mario & Yoshi set or the Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block.
- And for someone who loves collecting gaming history, it’s hard to beat the Atari 2600 or Nintendo Entertainment System.
- The Piranha Plant is a great choice when you want something smaller that still looks good in a gaming setup.
One thing I’d definitely recommend is paying attention to whether the person actually enjoys building LEGO.
Some of these are pretty large projects.
A 2,600-piece set can be a great gift for somebody who enjoys sitting down and working through a build over several evenings.
But if they just want something cool for their desk, a smaller set might make more sense.
I also put together The Best Gaming Accessories Katie Doesn’t Know I Bought…Yet for more gift inspiration.
Why LEGO and Video Games Work So Well Together
I think part of the appeal is nostalgia.
Video games are full of characters, consoles, and moments that people remember for years.
LEGO gives you a way to bring some of those memories into the real world.
Instead of simply putting a poster on the wall, you’re actually building something connected to a game you love.
And I think that’s pretty cool.
I’ve talked more about that in Why I’m Playing Old Games in 2026 (and Enjoying Them More)
Not everything has to be new.
Sometimes the stuff we grew up with is still the most exciting.
There’s also something appealing about stepping away from a screen for a while.
I spend a lot of time gaming, streaming, and working on ChannlerG.
Sitting down and building a LEGO set is a completely different kind of activity.
You’re still enjoying something connected to gaming, but you’re doing it with your hands instead of a controller or mouse.
And when you’re finished, you’ve got something you can actually display.

My Final Verdict: The Best LEGO Sets for Video Game Lovers in 2026
I think all eight of these sets have something interesting to offer, but a few stand out to me.
- The LEGO Game Boy is my best overall gift pick. It’s recognizable, relatively compact, and perfect for Nintendo fans.
- The Donkey Kong Arcade is my pick for somebody who wants a fun mechanical build. I love that it recreates the action of the original game.
- The LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System is probably my favorite big display. Building the console, controller, cartridge, and television would make for an awesome project.
- The LEGO Piranha Plant is the best if you’re looking for something smaller.
At the end of the day, I think the best LEGO gift is one that connects to a game or console the person actually loves.
Because there’s something pretty awesome about building a piece of your favorite gaming memories, then putting it on display for everyone to see.
