A couple of weeks ago, I published my first review of the SIMGOT EW300 IEMs.
I had only used them for around three hours at the time, but I already really liked them.
- They were comfortable
- They sounded great
- The bass was better than I was used to
- And most importantly for me, I could finally game without a giant headset pressing my glasses into the side of my head.
There was just one problem.
The directional audio seemed… wrong.
I noticed it immediately while playing The Finals.
I’d hear someone and think they were coming from my left.
They were on my right.
I’d swear somebody was behind me.
Nope.
I mentioned it several times in my original SIMGOT EW300 Review, but I was also very careful not to blame the IEMs yet.
- I’d barely used them
- I hadn’t messed with many settings
- I was brand new to IEMs
- There was a very real possibility that it was user error.
Well.
I owe SIMGOT an apology.
It was user error.
Like… extremely user error.

TL;DR
There was nothing wrong with the directional audio on my SIMGOT EW300s.
I had the left and right cables connected to the wrong IEMs.
After finally noticing the microscopic markings on the cable, I switched them around, loaded back into The Finals and…
Yep.
Problem solved immediately.
I’ve now put roughly 30 additional hours on the EW300s playing The Finals, A Plague Tale: Requiem and Detroit: Become Human.
My updated verdict?
I love these things.
- The directional audio is great
- They sound fantastic
- They’re incredibly comfortable with glasses
- & I’m now using them for basically everything.
My only real complaint is that I wish the cable were longer.

So… What Exactly Did I Do Wrong?
Here’s where I get to publicly embarrass myself.
I had the cables backward…
Not the actual IEMs.
The cables.
If you’ve never used IEMs before, the cable connects individually to each earpiece. I apparently connected the right cable to the left IEM and the left cable to the right IEM.
Which explains quite a lot.
Eventually, I disconnected the cable and noticed the smallest red dot imaginable near the tip of one side.
Then I noticed a tiny blue dot on the other.
Hmm. Interesting.
So I pulled out the instructions.
Sure enough, the markings were explained there too.
EVEN SMALLER.
I blame myself.
But come on…
The markings are technically there. I just wish they were considerably easier to see, especially for someone setting up their first pair of IEMs.
So here’s a free piece of advice that would’ve saved me some confusion:
Check the cable before connecting your EW300s.
Look closely at the very ends where the cable connects to each IEM and make sure you’ve got the correct side.
Don’t be me.
The Directional Audio Was Fixed Immediately
I didn’t need:
- Some magical EQ
- Different ear tips
- To spend an hour digging through Windows audio settings
- To decide that IEMs just weren’t as good for competitive gaming.
I needed to…
- put the left audio in my left ear.
Once I fixed the cables, the directional-audio problem disappeared.
I went back into The Finals, and everything made sense again.
- Enemy positioning sounded correct
- Left was left
- Right was right
Turns out that’s pretty helpful in an FPS.
Who knew?
How Are the EW300s After 30+ More Hours?
I’ve now spent roughly another 30 hours using them.
That’s a pretty significant difference from my original three-hour first impression.
I’ve used them with:
- The Finals
- A Plague Tale: Requiem
- Detroit: Become Human
That’s also a nice mixture for me because I’m not exclusively an FPS player.
I want my audio setup to work when directional information matters in The Finals, but I also want great dialogue, music, atmosphere and immersion when I’m playing story-driven games.
After substantially more time with the EW300s?
I don’t really have any complaints about the sound anymore.
Yes, I’d Use the EW300s for FPS Games
Initially, I wasn’t sure.
I actually preferred the directional awareness from my HyperX Cloud III Wireless because I kept misjudging where sounds were coming from with the SIMGOTs.
Now?
They’re pretty equal to me.
And that’s a big deal because I’ve spent significantly more time using my HyperX headset.
After fixing my incredibly complicated technical problem of having the channels backward, I’ve had no issue playing The Finals with the EW300s.
So if somebody asked me now:
Are the SIMGOT EW300s good for gaming?
Yes. I love mine.
And unlike my initial review, I’d now be comfortable recommending them for FPS games too.

They’re So Much Better With Glasses
This was the entire reason I wanted to try IEMs in the first place.
Traditional gaming headsets aren’t necessarily uncomfortable for me immediately.
It’s after I’ve been wearing them.
The earcups press the arms of my glasses into the side of my head. Things get hot. Eventually, I want the headset off.
That problem is just…
gone.
Even after significantly longer sessions with the EW300s, I’m not getting soreness or ear fatigue.
- They’re lightweight
- They’re comfortable
- My glasses aren’t being pushed into my head
- I can play for hours without really thinking about what’s in my ears.
That’s exactly what I wanted.
My One Actual Complaint: The Cable
After 30+ more hours, this is really the only thing I’d change.
I wish the cable were longer.
It isn’t quite long enough to comfortably reach my PC with the way my setup is arranged.
Fortunately, I’m currently using them through my FIFINE AM8 PRO-T microphone, so I plug the EW300s directly into the headphone output on the mic.
That works.
But the cable can still get in my way sometimes, and I’m coming from a wireless gaming headset, so having any headphone cable is something I’m getting used to.

My Updated SIMGOT EW300 Verdict
My first review ended with a question mark.
- I loved the comfort
- I loved the sound
- I loved the bass
- But I wasn’t ready to recommend the EW300s for competitive games because something felt wrong with the directional audio.
Thirty-ish hours later, I can finally clear that up.
There was nothing wrong with the directional audio.
I was the problem.
And honestly, I’m glad I said that was a possibility in the original review instead of immediately blaming the product.
Now that I’ve fixed the cables, I’ve got basically nothing negative to say about the EW300s beyond wishing the cable were a little longer.
- They’re comfortable
- They sound great
- Directional audio works exactly like I wanted it to
- The isolation is fantastic
- They don’t interfere with my glasses
- & They’ve completely replaced my traditional gaming headset for the time being.
That’s a much stronger recommendation than I could give them after three hours.
So…
SIMGOT, I’m sorry.
Maybe make those little red and blue dots a bit bigger, though.
Let’s call it even.
