If you had told me a few years ago that I’d be sitting here writing a blog on my own website, I probably would’ve laughed and gone back to grinding COD. But here we are.
Building ChannlerG has been one of the most fun, frustrating, and rewarding projects I’ve ever taken on. And if you’re reading this thinking, “That sounds cool, but I have no clue where to start,” trust me, I’ve been there.
This blog isn’t just about how I built my gaming brand. It’s about how you can do it too, without spending a fortune, losing your sanity, or getting lost in an endless loop of “Should I start?”
Some links may be affiliate links, meaning I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. These are tools and resources I trust and recommend, or wish I’d known about sooner.

Let’s break it down.
Step 1: Figuring Out What the Hell You’re Even Building
Before you spend a dime, get clear on your vision. What are you actually trying to create?
For me, it started as a real estate website. (Yeah, seriously.) But as I kept working on it, I realized:
- I love gaming, business, and making money from hobbies.
- I wanted a platform to document my journey, wins, and losses.
- I wanted to build a community, not just a website.
So, ChannlerG was born. It’s a mix of gaming, business, real estate, and self-improvement. Because that’s what I’m about.
Your brand should reflect YOU. What do you love? What do you want to talk about every day? If you don’t figure this out early, you’ll burn out fast.

Step 2: Buying the Domain & Setting Up the Site
Once I knew what I wanted to build, it was time to get the site live. Here’s what I did:
- Bought the domain – I went with ChannlerG.com because it’s personal and flexible. If you’re stuck, your Gamertag, last name, or something brandable is a good start.
- Picked a hosting plan – I used SiteGround (solid speeds & support). If you’re on a budget, Namecheap or Bluehost work too.
- Installed WordPress & Elementor – WordPress is free and Elementor makes designing the site 10x easier without coding.
- Picked a theme – I started with Astra but eventually mixed in Elementor templates to get exactly what I wanted. If you want full control, start simple and customize later.
- Set up the pages – Every gaming brand needs at least:
-
- Home Page (what you’re about)
- About Page (your story)
- Blog Page (SEO + traffic growth)
- Contact Page (so people can reach you)
After this, boom, you have a site. Now comes the hard part: filling it with content and making it grow.
I used SiteGround to get started and Wehrenberg Web Design to design my site without coding headaches.
Step 3: Creating Content That Doesn’t Suck
Your website is worthless if nobody visits it. The best way to bring people in? Content.
What’s working for me so far:
- Blogging – I write about gaming, business, and real estate (everything that fits my brand).
- SEO (Google traffic) – I focus on keywords that gamers and entrepreneurs actually search for.
- Affiliate marketing – Recommending products I actually use (no shady garbage).
- Building a community – Instead of just writing, I’m engaging with gamers, content creators, and business owners.
My advice? Start with one type of content and build from there. If you like writing, blog. If you prefer video, start a YouTube channel. Just don’t overthink it. Done is better than perfect.
Step 4: Monetizing (Without Selling Out)
At the end of the day, I want ChannlerG to be more than a hobby. I want it to make money, but in a way that actually helps people.
Here’s how I’m monetizing (and how you can too):
- Affiliate Marketing – Recommending gear I actually use (monitors, controllers, headsets, etc.).
- Sponsorships – Partnering with brands that fit my audience.
- Tournaments & Community Events – Potential income from entry fees, sponsors, and merch.
- Real Estate Leads – Using my blog to attract potential home buyers & investors.
- Digital Products (Future Plans) – Courses, guides, or coaching for gamers and entrepreneurs.
The key? Don’t try to cash in too early. Build trust first, and the money will follow.
I monetize by sharing products I use through Amazon Associates.

Step 5: Growing the Brand & Playing the Long Game
This is not an overnight success thing. If you’re thinking about starting a gaming brand, be ready to commit long-term.
- My 6-month goal: Get into a routine, post consistent content, and build a real audience.
- My 1-year goal: Make a full-time income from ChannlerG.
- My 5-year goal: Who knows? Maybe build an esports team, a media company, or something even bigger.
The point is, this is just the beginning. If you’re serious about turning gaming into something real, you need to start now and stay consistent.
I connect with my audience by using Elgato Capture Cards to create content that brings them in.
Final Thoughts: You Can Do This Too
If you’ve ever thought about starting your own website, blog, or brand, DO IT.
- You don’t need to be a pro.
- You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars.
- You don’t need to know everything before you start.
You just need to take that first step. And if you need help, follow my journey. I’m figuring this out in real-time.
