Resident Evil Requiem Sells 5 Million Copies in Five Days

Capcom’s newest Resident Evil release is off to a massive start.

The company announced that Resident Evil Requiem has reached 5 million copies sold within its first five days on the market, marking the strongest early sales performance the long-running survival horror franchise has seen.

Although Capcom did not formally label the launch as a franchise record in its announcement, the numbers place Requiem ahead of every previous Resident Evil game during the same time frame.

Faster Start Than Previous Resident Evil Hits

Several modern Resident Evil entries have performed well at launch, but Requiem’s early numbers move past those openings.

The Resident Evil 2 remake from 2019, which currently stands as the best-selling game in the series reaching 3 million units during its first week.

Other recent releases, including Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Resident Evil Village, and the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3,all recorded similar launch sales ranges during their initial weeks.

With 5 million copies sold in under a week, Requiem has surpassed those early totals.

Launching Across Multiple Platforms

Resident Evil Requiem released simultaneously on several current platforms, which likely contributed to its strong opening performance. The game launched on:

  • PlayStation 5

  • Xbox Series X

  • PC

  • Nintendo Switch 2

The PC version also saw significant activity on Steam, reaching a peak of 344,214 concurrent players during launch weekend. That number places the game within Steam’s top 40 all-time peak player counts.

A Mix of Familiar Characters and New Story

Resident Evil Requiem features Leon S. Kennedy, one of the franchise’s most recognizable characters, while introducing a new storyline and gameplay systems that continue the direction seen in Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village.

The combination of an established character, a new narrative, and a wide platform launch has resulted in one of the franchise’s strongest openings to date.

With 5 million copies sold in just five days, Resident Evil Requiem has quickly become one of the most successful launches in Resident Evil history.
