Why I’m Chasing Freedom (Even When It Feels Risky)

Most people hear “stable paycheck” and think security.

I hear “trading my time forever” and feel anxious.

That doesn’t mean traditional jobs are bad.

It just means I’ve never been wired that way.

I’ve always wanted:

  • flexibility
  • ownership
  • creativity
  • freedom
  • the chance to build something mine

The problem?

That dream sounds a lot cleaner on paper than it feels in real life.

Why Traditional Work Never Fit Me Well

Let’s get one thing straight: I respect people who love their jobs and thrive in a structured environment. But that’s just not me. Here’s why:

  • Capped income bothers me
  • Lack of ownership
  • Time rigidity
  • Variety matters
  • Creative freedom

The idea of building something on my own terms, where I wake up excited to work on my own projects, feels right.

Here’s a look at The Random Side Hustles That Prepared Me to Build ChannlerG.

What I’m Building Instead

I’m not just quitting the 9-5 life for the sake of quitting. I’m building something better. This isn’t just about me. It’s about my wife, my kids, and the future we’re creating together.

The Challenges & Why It’s Worth It

Betting on yourself sounds great, but let’s be real, it’s hard.

  • There’s no guaranteed paycheck.
  • No boss is telling me what to do… I have to hold myself accountable.
  • People won’t always get it. Some will doubt me. Others will think it’s just a hobby. But that’s fine because I know where this is going.

Even with all the challenges, I wouldn’t trade this path for anything. Because at the end of the day, I know:

  • I’ll never wonder “what if?”
  • I’m spending real time with my family, not just giving them what’s left after work.
  • If I fail, it’s on me, but so is every win.

I’m Not Saying Everyone Should Do This

I still question this.

Pretty often.

Some days I feel wildly confident.

Some days I wonder if I’m out of my mind.

Both are probably true.

But I know this:

I care deeply about building something that gives my family more freedom, more flexibility, and more ownership over our time.

That vision still matters enough for me to keep showing up.

So for now?

I’m still betting on us.
