Blue Prince Is Driving Me Insane (And I Can’t Stop Playing)

I think I love this game.

I also think it might be wasting my life.

And the worst part is… I genuinely can’t tell which one is true yet.

I Don’t Even Know How to Explain This Game

Blue Prince is one of those games where if someone asked me what it is, I’d immediately regret bringing it up.

Technically, it’s a puzzle game. Kind of.

You’re moving through this mansion, opening doors, picking rooms, collecting keys, gems, and clues, all trying to reach this hidden room called the Antechamber.

But you only get a limited number of steps.

And every door you open gives you three random room options.

And every room might matter.

Or might not.

And somehow, all of it feels important, even when you have no idea why.

The Game Literally Told Me to Start Taking Notes

So I did.

I have a notebook now.

Like… a dedicated notebook.

Pages of notes. Diagrams. Random thoughts. Stuff I wrote down because it felt like it would matter later.

And the thing is, it probably will.

Or it won’t.

That’s the problem.

This Game Feels Like You’re Constantly Almost Figuring It Out

That’s the hook.

You never feel completely lost.

You feel like you’re close.

Like everything you’re seeing connects somehow, you just haven’t quite lined it up yet.

And then you’ll get one clue

One tiny thing, and suddenly you’re convinced:

Okay. This is it. I’m getting somewhere.

And for the next 45 minutes, you are locked in.

Then You Realize You’ve Been Staring at a Book for 15 Minutes

Not even exaggerating.

There are moments where I’m just… reading.

In-game book. Real notes next to me. Not moving. Not progressing.

Just sitting there trying to understand something that may or may not matter.

And that’s when it hits:

What am I actually doing right now?

It’s Punishing in a Way That Feels Personal

Not like a hard boss fight.

Not like “try again, get better.”

More like:

Hope you made the right decisions 20 minutes ago.

You’ll finish a run and realize nothing you did helped.

Or at least it feels like it didn’t.

And that’s where it gets dangerous.

Because it starts to feel like you’re wasting time.

Sunday Was… Concerning

I played for like 10 hours over the weekend.

Got to around day 11 or 12.

And by Sunday afternoon, I had this moment where I just sat there thinking:

Did I actually learn anything?

Like… seriously.

I had a notebook full of notes. Hours of playtime. A ton of “progress.”

And I couldn’t confidently say I was any closer to finishing the game.

Yet… I Didn’t Want to Stop

That’s the part I can’t shake.

I stepped away for lunch on Saturday, and all I could think about was getting back to it.

Not in a grindy way.

In a curious way.

Like the game had something it hadn’t shown me yet.

This Is Not a Streaming Game (At Least For Me)

I’m really glad I didn’t stream this.

Because how do you stream:

  • Sitting in silence reading for 15 minutes
  • Writing notes in a binder
  • Trying to connect dots you don’t fully understand yet

There’s nothing “clip-worthy” about it.

No big moments. No instant payoff.

It’s slow. It’s confusing. It’s private.

…Maybe that’s why I like it so much.

This kind of slow, solo experience is exactly what i’ve been leaning into lately

The Loop Is Dangerous

Right when you’re about to quit…

You’ll get a new room.

Something you’ve never seen before.

A piece of the story. A clue. A detail.

And just like that, you’re back.

I Still Don’t Know If I’m Getting Anywhere

That’s the weirdest part.

I’ve played a ton.

I’ve taken notes.

I’ve had moments where I felt like I understood something.

And I still don’t know if I’m actually progressing.

Blue Prince Is the Kind of Game Where…

  1. You have to be in the mood for it.
  2. If you get it, you get it.

And if you don’t…

You probably think I just spent my entire weekend doing absolutely nothing.
