You all know my gaming skills pretty well by now…
If making money from gaming required being cracked, I wouldn’t be writing this.
I’d be somewhere rage-quitting a ranked match and blaming my teammates.
But here’s what I’ve learned:
You don’t need to be a pro to make money from gaming.
You just need to stop looking at it like it’s a hobby.

When I Realized Gaming Could Be More Than Just a Hobby
I never had some big, dramatic moment where I thought, “Wait a second… I could make money from this!”
It kind of just happened.
My friend built me a PC, and suddenly, I was obsessed with everything about it.
I started recording gameplay, messing around with content ideas, and diving into the whole gaming business world.
And that was when I realized this wasn’t just a hobby.
I’ve always had this habit of turning hobbies into business opportunities.
It’s just how my brain works.
But until now, I never had a real plan for how to make it work long-term.
It took me a long time to figure out:
I wasn’t just playing games anymore…
I was building something around them.
The Biggest Mistake Gamers Make (That Keeps Them Broke)
They think making money from gaming means going pro.
So they don’t even try.

Ways to Make Money from Gaming (Even If You’re Not Cracked)
There’s no one “right” way to do this. There are just different paths depending on what you enjoy and how you want to play it.
1. Content Creation (Streaming, YouTube, TikTok, etc.)
You create content, build an audience, and eventually monetize through ads, sponsorships, and memberships.
Reality:
This takes time. A lot of time.
But once something hits, it compounds.
Start simple:
- Phone camera → Webcam
- Basic mic → HyperX QuadCast 2 S
- Consistency over perfection
2. Affiliate Marketing (What I’m Focused On)
You recommend products like gear, games, and setups, and earn a commission when people buy through your links.
Reality:
This is slow at first… then it stacks.
One post might do nothing.
But 10–20 good posts? That’s when it starts connecting.
This is the closest thing to “passive” in gaming if you do it right.
Read up on what I’ve learned so far in Affiliate Marketing for Gamers: What Works & What Doesn’t.
3. Gaming Tournaments & Coaching
You don’t need to be a pro; you just need to understand the game better than someone else.
- Coach beginners
- Help with strategy
- Or host tournaments and take a cut
Reality:
You don’t need cracked aim…
You need value.
4. Selling Gaming Services or Digital Products
Things like:
- Custom overlays
- Coaching guides
- Training plans
- Simple digital products
Reality:
People will pay to:
- improve faster
- save time
- skip frustration
If you can help with that, there’s money here.
5. Building a Gaming Brand or Community
This is the long game.
You’re not just making content, you’re building something people come back to:
- a brand
- a system
- a community
Reality:
This takes the longest…
but has the biggest upside.
This is what I’m doing with ChannlerG
What Really Works (If You Skip Everything Else)
- Pick one lane
- Stick with it
- Get slightly better every week
Most people don’t fail because it doesn’t work.
They fail because they quit before it does.
What I’m Doing to Turn Gaming into a Business
Right now, I’m not trying to do everything.
I’m focused on a few things that make sense long-term for my family and me:
- Affiliate marketing + content
- Building something helpful (not just views)
- Treating this like a business, not a side hustle
The Hardest Part So Far? The Website.
Building a website from scratch with ADHD levels of hyperfocus has been an experience.
I loved learning it, but eventually, I had to admit defeat and hire someone to finish it. That was a big lesson in itself.
Because I realized:
Just because you can do everything…
doesn’t mean you should.
The #1 Thing That Holds People Back from Making Money in Gaming
Most people don’t believe it’s possible.
They don’t believe it’s real.
So they never commit long enough to find out.
And I get it. It’s easy to feel like you’re too late, it’s too competitive, or it’s just not realistic.
But here’s the truth:
- More people are making money from gaming now than ever before
- The industry is still growing FAST
- If you’re consistent and strategic, it’s not a matter of “if” you’ll succeed, it’s “when.”

Final Thoughts: Where This Can Go in 5 Years
I don’t know exactly what this will look like in 5 years.
But I know this:
I’m not going back to just playing games.
I’m building a brand with them.
And if you’re even thinking about doing the same…
You’re already closer than you think.
