Half a Year of ChannlerG: The Real Lessons Learned

(And How You Can Apply It to Whatever You’re Building)

Six months ago, I had a blog, an idea, and a million open tabs trying to figure out how to turn this into something real. Now, I’ve got a brand, a community, and a business that’s actually growing. (check out Where ChannlerG is Going: Building a Brand and Business)

I won’t pretend it’s been easy.
I won’t pretend I haven’t had moments of “What the hell am I doing?”
But I will tell you exactly what I’ve learned so if you’re building something of your own, you can avoid my mistakes (or at least laugh at them).
Some links may be affiliate links, meaning I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. But these are tools and resources I use or trust.

1. If You Wait Until You’re Ready, You’ll Never Start

I wasted way too much time thinking I needed everything to be perfect before launching the blog, setting up social media, or even talking about the brand.
Here’s the truth:

  • You’re never going to feel ready.
  • You’re never going to have all the answers.
  • You’re going to cringe at your early work no matter what.

So just start.
The faster you start, the faster you learn, improve, and actually get somewhere.

Lesson for You: Stop waiting for the “right time.” Just get moving.

Don’t wait for perfect. Just get your site live with SiteGround and start learning as you go.

2. Structure & Systems Are Everything

When I started, I was just kind of winging it.

Write some blogs here, try some marketing there, play a game and call it “content”, but eventually, I realized:

Without structure, I was wasting a ton of time.

So I set up a system.

  • Content creation has a process.
  • Blogs follow a schedule.
  • Everything gets repurposed into micro-content for socials.

It’s made things 10x easier and way more sustainable.

Lesson for You: If you’re serious about building something, create a system. It’ll save you so much stress.

Systems saved me. I use our Skylight to keep content, tasks, and ideas organized without losing my mind.

3. Consistency Beats Everything (Even Talent)

  • There are way better gamers than me.
  • There are way better bloggers than me.
  • There are way better business owners than me.

But guess what? A lot of them never stick with it.

I see so many people start something and then disappear. They post twice and expect an audience. They write one blog and expect traffic. They try once and get discouraged.

Success doesn’t work like that.

Lesson for You: You don’t have to be the best. You just have to be the one who keeps showing up.

4. Your First Business Move Should Be… Learning to Market

I don’t care if you’re starting a blog, a gaming brand, a real estate business, or selling socks online; if you don’t know how to get people’s attention, you’re going nowhere.

Learning SEO, social media marketing, content strategy, and how to actually sell things was a game-changer. It’s why I know this will work long-term.

Lesson for You: No matter what you’re building, get good at marketing. It’s the difference between being successful and being invisible.

5. You Need a Bigger “Why” Than Just Making Money

Obviously, I want this business to make money.
But if that was my only goal, I would’ve quit already.

Here’s why:

  • Money doesn’t come fast enough to keep you motivated in the beginning.
  • If you’re ONLY chasing a paycheck, people can tell… and they don’t trust you.

For me, ChannlerG is bigger than that.

  • It’s about helping people build something of their own.
  • It’s about growing a community that supports each other.
  • It’s about giving my family a better future.

That’s what keeps me going.

Lesson for You: If you want long-term success, your why has to be stronger than just making money.

For me, it’s bigger than money. Atomic Habits and my Kindle keep me focused.

6. You Have to Be Willing to Adapt

When I started this, I thought it would be mostly gaming content.
Now, real estate, business, mental health, and community-building are just as big a focus.

Why? Because I listened.

  • I saw what resonated with people.
  • I saw what I actually enjoyed creating.
  • I saw where the real value was.

And I adjusted.

Lesson for You: Don’t get so stuck on your “original plan” that you ignore opportunities. Be flexible. The best opportunities come when you least expect them.

7. People Will Support You, But Only If You Show Up First

Nobody cared about ChannlerG when I started. Why would they?
I hadn’t proven I was serious.

But the more I showed up, the more I put in the work, and the more value I provided, people started paying attention.

  • They started asking questions.
  • They started engaging with posts.
  • They started following the journey.

Lesson for You: If you want support, prove that you’re worth supporting. Show up consistently. Provide real value. The community will come. (Check out Why Building a Community Beats Going Viral)

8. Burnout Is Real, and It Will Kill Your Business If You Let It

I’ve hit burnout walls so many times in the last six months.

  • Working non-stop isn’t the flex people think it is.
  • Hustle culture will break you if you let it.
  • You do better work when you take care of yourself.

Now, I prioritize breaks just as much as work. (More on that in Avoiding Burnout While Building a Brand).
I schedule my time better so I don’t feel overwhelmed.
I accept that this is a long game and stop stressing over short-term numbers.

Lesson for You: Take care of yourself. You can’t build a business if you’re too burnt out to function.

Avoid burnout. I unwind with some Headphones or the PS5 to reset.

9. The First Big Win Makes It All Feel Real

For me, the first real win was getting the website built and actually having a place for all of this to live.

For you, it might be:

  •  Your first sale
  • Your first 1,000 views
  • Your first piece of good feedback

Once you hit that first real win, everything shifts.

Lesson for You: Keep pushing until you hit that first big win. That’s the moment everything starts feeling real.

My first big win? Launching the site with SiteGround. It felt real, finally.

10. I Still Have a Lot to Learn. And That’s a Good Thing

If there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that I don’t know everything.

But the beauty of building something like this is that the learning never stops.
You get better at writing.
You get better at marketing.
You get better at business.
You get better at adapting, pivoting, and figuring it all out.

Lesson for You: Learning never stops. But as long as you keep going, neither does the growth.

Final Thoughts: Keep Building

Whether you’re building a brand, a blog, a gaming business, or something completely different, the biggest lesson I’ve learned in 6 months is this:

  • It won’t always be easy.
  • It won’t always be fast.
  •  But if you’re consistent, intentional, and willing to learn, it WILL be worth it.

So whatever you’re building, keep going.
Your 6-month success story is waiting on the other side.
